The optical system consists of 16 elements in 13 groups and includes a range of high-tech, high-end components. These include three FLD glass elements, two SLD glass elements, and two molded glass aspherical elements. This design minimizes optical aberrations and ensures outstanding resolution at wide-open aperture and throughout the aperture range.

In particular, the two aspherical lens elements have ultra-high-precision surfaces, polished to tolerances under 10 nanometers. This minimizes the onion ring bokeh effect that some aspherical elements produce, ensuring clear image quality across the frame. The optical system is designed to gently bend light, minimizing sagittal coma flare and delivering optimal optical performance from the center to the edges of the frame. The result is a smooth, round bokeh effect with ample light volume across the entire image.

Designed to Minimize Flare and Ghosting

From the early stages of design, SIGMA measured flare and ghosting to create an optical system resistant to strong light sources such as backlighting. SIGMA’s Super Multi-Layer Coating effectively reduces flare and ghosting, allowing photographers to capture sharp, high-contrast images even in backlit conditions. The included lens hood further helps block extraneous light, preventing negative effects on rendering performance.
